The Pilot: A Digital Bicycle Built for Two

While at AKQA SF, a major agency focus was on trying to create a more cohesive agency culture and to bring new hires into the fold in a clever digital way.

The Pilot:

To welcome new hires, we created a shared and innovative way for pairs of new hires to get to know the city. We wired a vintage Schwinn tandem bike with GPS and a set of digital turn signals.

This enabled us to program the bike from the office to take riders anywhere in the city without their needing a screen, an app, or any hardware for directions. The digital turn signals simply blinked “RIGHT” or “LEFT” as turns on the GPS came up.
